Heating a vacuum setup

Post by Biggie »

I was thinking about using an electric blanket to lay down ontop of a vacuum setup to maybe speed up the process a little. electric blankets dont get too hot but i was wondering if the elevated temperature over room temperature would help. So basically im wondering if this would be worth doing

Also, will the same epoxy you use without a heated system work properly under heat?

The answer to both your questions is yes! Yes the room temp epoxy will work fine with a moderately elevated temp, and yes the elevated temp is worth it because it accelerates the chemical chain reaction which hardens the epoxy thereby shortening your press time. If you increase the cure temp of a room temp epoxy too much I suppose you stand a chance of it curing more brittle. I don't think that a simple heating pad or blanket would provide enough heat for this problem to occur though.
