shower curtain vacuumed bag? and other questions....

Post by dsmith3232 »

GREAT SITE! It has been a wonderful source of inspiration.

I’m making my first snowboard along with a friend who is making skies.
I have some woodworking experience but I have never tried a project like this. There will be many firsts for me in making this project.

So far I have made the core and I just finished the mold.
We were going to do a press with a bladder but my friend was given a vacuum pump to use for free. (No bag large enough though so we have to make one)

1) I’m starting to look into making a vacuum bag.
Has anyone tried using a vinyl shower curtain as a vacuum bag? Seems like a much more affordable option than buying sheets of poly.

2) Will Epoxy stick to vinyl?

3) What is the cheapest method for sealing the open ends? Will Duct tape work?

4) On my mold. I have over 100 stapes in the top. Do I need to putty all the staple dimples? I was thinking about applying packing tape on top off the whole mold to prevent the epoxy from sticking. Will the tape be enough to cover the gap?

Thanks for the site and all the work that goes into it.
