Hello SkiBuilders,
I thought you all might be interested to see the progress my brother is making on a ski press in our basement. His page isn't as developed as Skibuilders.com (yet). However, its a good time and, who knows, there may be something there you could learn.
On the page you can see pictures, explanation of the process, and post your own comments.
We hope to turn the first pair of skis out in mid December. We need all the help we can get. So, go to link below, see the progress, and make a comment.

i`ll start with some comments here

nice page, good to see some pics. but regarding your press....only 4 screws per side??? i`m not into these monsters of steel heavy duty presses, but 4screws seem too little for me to hold?

Nice website indeed, and very nice place to work !
I wonder why you use spacers in your frame ? If you do not, you could weld the I beam together and plywood woul not be scared
keep us informed !

She's going to blow if you put a big hose in this one. be careful with her guys!
4 more bolts should do it, but i would make them a bit thicker. In my first press i used 8 M10 (10mm) bolts, and I could put a thin knife blade in the gap between the I-beams at 8bar.

DANGER
With any significant pressure (35 psi or higher) you are going to have enough deflection in the steel of the frame which will most definitely shear those small (3/8?) bolts that you have holding the frame together.
IMO that is not a sound frame design. Remember you're probably going to be dealing with between 40 and 80,000 lbs of force on your press!

Hi
My press has teh same top beem like yours, but not the same position is upside down, and with alot of weld and i advise you with bolts you must stay away when you presurise the hose.
redisign it again

I work at Ober as a snowboard instructor and am currently working on a press in the off season.
Did you guys ever get this thing up and running?

The first thing I thought of when I saw your heating system was something else Tennessee is famous for... MOONSHINE!
Way to turn the still into something equally useful

My dad stumbled across a still while building a house (he's a real estate investor) and the guy who ran it or whatever gave him like a gallon of the stuff.
...we ended up using it in our alcohol powered drag car.
Worked like a charm!
haha.
Yeah Baby!

Tennessee always represents. I do believe the gentleman with this press completed his skis and is skiing them this season so bravo.
Also, what up Dano.
We are in the process of building a system, press done, creating base mold, fire hose obtained, just need a Moonshine still to add to the fun!
