Good point DBS. I usually do some hand bending on the tips before I glue. I find it hard to get the edges to match perfectly for the whole edge prior to gluing.

I know it's really difficult, but it really is essential. If anything over bend them, so that any tension is pushing them in, instead of out.

any over bend in one area usually results in an outer bend in another forcing the edge away somewhere.

It has to be as close as possible, that takes the most time.

Its just wrong because i'm crushing your edging world with my crazy nuevo nesesisito steeze.

My whole neighborhood's been doing it this way for years.

I'm still gluing edges the traditional way, tines up, running surface down, attached to the template.
Bending edges is probably the hardest part of ski building.
It takes a fair bit of time to get it right.
But when I'm done they sit on the template no clamps needed.
This pair is not "perfect" but should be close enough.



When gluing I just make sure I'm pressing them tight to the base and clamp.
Once this latest pair is off the mold I'll take pics and you guys can be the judge

The slap test is probably the best analysis of if this works or not...your eye is great. It's the actual tension that contributes to MTBF.

oh and the 4frnt denting is on every pair on the rack at my local shops, the renegades aren't sold in shops and I only flexed or even seen a pair for a few minutes on the hill so I didn't look for the camber dent.

Armadas have it also, not bd not atomics higher quality free ride skis but the low end stuff sure does.

Go hold a ski straight out from your nose parrellel to the ground sidewall up and look down the base, instead of a smooth arc you will see the dents.
Perhaps I'm overly critical but you can get them true and straight or at least some companies can. I should be able to also.
Pressing a few pairs this week so we will see.

Wow. Just noticed this thread, cast my vote, and had an "ah-ha!" moment. Actually, more like an "oh, shit" moment. The hours I've spent re-doing edges.....

Will try this on my very next attempt.

Another interesting poll would be to see how many bend edges by hand. I stressed this for a long time before settling on a pair or pliers and about $2 worth of nuts and washers.

Just tried this on a dry run. It's going to work like a charm, I can tell.

I'm blushing when I think how much time i spent on mediocre results. Someone give Montuckymadman a medal.

Just for making it an issue doesn't necessitate a medal. I've always done it this way...it's like, has anyone here ever read "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson? The people that actually invented the stuff we recognize as standard have NO place in history...MM is like the Bill Gates of edging here
