I have a old pair of Atomic Surgar Daddies that they flood coated the bottom of the core with some kind of pigment and almost the whole base has delamanated. So how good is it to bond directly to a pigment coating? I think I would try to stain the core first.

my allround board that i've been riding 100+ days now has a base coated with acrylic paint and i've only recently hit a rock with the tip and there's just a small dent in the base but no signs of delam (no full wrap edge though, i end them right after the contact point).

No idea on pigment-delam. I've stained a core and had no issues (aside from the fact I bent the ski in half doing some destructive testing).
