why don't you just trim the sidewalls flush with a router after you press it?

No no, the topic here is cutting the profile on the sidewalls before pressing. After pressing and trimming, you just route with a dovetail router bit, that's the easy part!

Ok... Newbie here... But, why can't I just attach the sidewall to the core prior to profiling it and profile both the sidewall and core at the same time??? I have a core with sidewall attached right now that I was planning on profiling later this week. I double checked my core/sidewall bond by planing it down a little and had zero bond issues.... Am I doomed???!!! Or maybe just picked a good adhesive??? Will profile it and get back to you with good or bad news....

The problem many have is when you get down to 2-3mm in the tip/tail area, the sidewall tends to tear off or get chewed up by the planer. Are you using a planer, router or cnc?

Awww, naivety. That's cute :)

Try it out and see, maybe you'll have good luck. 90% chance when you get down to where you're almost done, it'll rip a few inches off.
