I'm going to be doing my first layup in the next few weeks and wanted to get some quick advice from those of you who use vacuum bags to press your skis. I'd really like to use inserts since I have a history of breaking skis and pulling bindings out but I am a little concerned with keeping the core aligned to the base correctly. I've seen some people talk about using nails to keep things aligned I've also seen wood pegs. I'm wondering what method those of you out there use and how sucessful you've been with your method. If I can't come up with an easy method I might just attempt this layup w/out inserts, but figured I'd ask around a bit.
Thanks!

I would like to do inserts this year. Will you use the same ones snow boards use?
I have had good luck with stand offs which are plastic cylinders that look like a very narrow toob about 3/8" of and inch long with a flange around the base. Basically any little dowel glued to the base material will work. The moment of truth is when you lay up the ski you have to be careful that the flexed core and base may shift the standoff and shear it off. it is best if the hole is slightly elongated to allow for this travel. It will help if your core is prebent. Otherwise the core will be trying to jump up off of your alighnent pin. Nails will work too. Superglue the peg to the base material. Keep the head clean.
