Vinyl Graphics

Post by Telemark Mark »

Hello all -

Anyone have any opinions on the adhesive properties of vinyl graphics? I've got a friend that owns a sign shop. He can print full size vinyl signs for me to use under a clear topsheet. I'm currently using West System (105 epoxy resin, 206 hardener) and have had very good results with it.

Thanks -

I really don't think that vinyl would stick very well to epoxy.

I have been wondering for a while though about building a board without a top sheet and then using a full length vinyl sticker as the top sheet. Obviously the vinyl would be for graphics and protection.

If applying vinyl stickers, it is best to spray a layer of clear or polyurethane over the top to protect it.
Like what has been said before, I would be inclined to think the glue that is used is just not strong enough. Maybe it would be possible to remove the glue and use a stronger glue??? Or even a coat of PU, then while its still tacky, add the vinyl, then another coat over the top?? If doing this, keep it in from the edges enough that there is some over lap of the top and bottom coat, that way it is less likely to peel up at the edges.
I have a brother that has a vinyl cutter and we have both pondered this idea too. What I have done is had vinyl masks cut out, then sprayed them.
Im guessing your friend will be printing graphics onto the vinyl. Would the process be capable to use some other material that be could be used like a topsheet? It doesnt have to be that thick if you spray a coat over the top, just enough it can withstand tearing.
