Epoxy Flex without failure

Post by Chubz »

Folks,

Ran a sample material build this weekend testing for bonding, flexing, etc.. In dissecting the sample, it seemed the epoxy was fragile and excess epoxy I layed out on plastic snapped under slight hand pressure. My resin and hardener come with the ratio pumps. I know folks say to measure it out for accuracy, but based on general epoxy mixing, what would allow for a more "flexy" epoxy while maintaining bonding.......slightly less hardener???

Thanks

Hey Greg,

The results that you describe sound very much like you might be using a heat cure resin combo, but you didn't get it up to heat for a long enough period of time. Improperly cured heat cure resin does become solid but is very weak. If you place a sample in the oven at 170 F for 20 minutes, the same resin becomes very flexible and nearly indestructible.
What resin combo are you using?
