Camber question

Post by Bucky Mullet »

OK,
So I'd like to build a press form (ie. the bottom) that I can use formultiple ski desins ranging fromrockers to normal. So I figured that I'd make it out of MDF, with members for the main camber (even the rockers will have some underfoot) and the tips, with the tips being interchangeable for the length/ rockerness of the ski. Now in my previous ski builds the camber was pretty unimportant, as after a couple days the skis ended up flat :( so I figured that I'd press with extra camber in order for the skis to relax and keep some there. One thing though is that this time I'll have heat, so I'm not sure whether they will loose quite as much.
Bottom line is that I have started to build the form and settled on 1.6 cm of camber (again, i figured that they would loose some) over 200 cm (I'm planing on long skis). Now that translates to loosing 2mm of camber / 10 cm (example, a 180 cm ski will be pressed with 1.2 cm of camber). So is this just a bad idea? I find that the activation barrier for me is building the form, and that it ends up taking up a bunch of space too, so I thought making a versatile one would be a good idea. Plus, when I complained to Salomon that my skis had lost their camber their response was "what do you need camber for anyway"... and when I showed a bent AK Maden to the K2 rep his comment was "that's like an upgrade, don't you know the hellbent is where it's at?". Neither comment was as funny as they thought.

Do you all make new forms for every different length or is there a trick?

btw. the clock is ticking as I've started the construction process
