Estimating core thickness for ski stiffness

Post by Idris »

I am intending on making a ski similar to my house mates Black Diamond 173 Havoc's. They are a relatively stiff ski for a freeride plank. But not race carver in stiffness.

I will be using 22oz triax and wondering if anyone can come up with a more calculating way of working out core thickness than just a stab in the dark.

I know the core from a PMgear 179 cut down to 173 length would be almost right. Having once made a pair of 169's from 179 parts, they came out stiff.

Thanks Tom

Oh wood type will be similar to Kam's environmentally friendly ones ;)

That's funny I was going to ask you this very question.
I have some 188 stiff protos from last year and I love them and I was wondering if you or one of the other pm peeps could give me a relative core profile dimension. Not that I'm trying to copy I just know what I like.
