De-camber Ski by adding uni in full rocker mould

Post by pmg »

Hi,

unfortunately, my new touring ski has way too much camber. But they are pretty soft. So I came up with an Idea:
I could make my mould have full rocker shape, and then press some additional uni carbon on top.
This would mean that this additional layer tries to "pull" up the ski into a full rocker, while the rest of the fibres try to pull it into its original camber shape.
WDYT about this? The main trouble I see is that then all uni fibres are constantly under tension.

Thx for your feedback!

Do you have a heated setup? I have changed camber in cured skis by reheating and pressing. I had a pair that I wanted to experiment with and actually did this several times. I even pressed them to have about 2 mm of edge to edge "rocker".

I don't know if certain epoxies work better than others and of course your results may vary. I used QCM/Forest epoxy and the skis are actually still intact although I have completely destroyed the bases and edges and ground the base to paper thin.

So you want to modify your already pressed skis?

If so the Uni trick could work and i see not a problem with pretensioned fibres. You will maybe get a even better damping with this asymetrical setup, its like a shock absorber with different compression/release character. But you will also get a little bit different flex behaviour because you dont add thickness to do a thicker & stronger (symetrically laid up) ski, you just add fibres on the compression side
