Hmm Monoskis.
When I was a ski instructor in France, I had to occasionally teach classes on the things.
I hated them!
They reinforce all the bad habits that you try to teach people not todo.
Jam your feet together
no independant movement of the legs
And basically turn my wiggling your bum.
I remember in the 70's or early 80's there was a series of French films called "Appocalypse snow" where a bunch of skiers did amazing stuff in deep powder snow.
I thought they were all fantastic skiers, untill I tried the mono ski in deep snow myself, and realised that any average Joe Bloggs could do what they were doing.
I was dissapointed that it was so easy to ski in powder.. no challenge at all, and that the skiers that I idolized were probably not nearly as good as I thought.
Anyway I haven't seen a mono ski for years.

I am nobody. Nobody's perfect, so I must be perfect.

Re: Monoski
Dug this old post up as a friend has asked me to build a mono to replace his old Faction.
Spent a bit of time measuring the thing tonight. Sidecut is set way back, 37cm's from the ski center.
Looks to be about 25m radius. Board dimensions at 190cm's 240-185-190.
Core is around 8mm down to 2mm with a long mounting plateau/flat spot.
Binding holes are almost on the edge, will definitely be into side walls.
Should be a fun project.
Not sure I want to ride it though!!!
Will try to update as this progresses.

You don't even have a legit signature, nothing to reveal who you are and what you do...
Best of luck to you. (uneva)

Re: Monoski
That is very little sidecut by today's standards.
On the alpinesnowboarder.com forum there is a user 'monodude' who is carving monoskis really nicely. Maybe good to contact him for input on a more modern design.

Re: Monoski
The faction is a strange mix between oldschool mono (almost pintail), little bit carver and rocker (faction did the first rockered monoski). Binding mounting position is also quite oldschool.

Re: Monoski
Thanks mammuth,
My buddy worked at and with Faction to design the first rockered mono. He has a few different boards but I think they are all fairly old designs.
Will see if he's interested in something a little more modern.
We all struggled with the idea of shaped skis when they came along, but only took a couple rides before we were convinced.
I don't think I could ski on my old 210 Head GKO3's if my life depended on it. But late 70's they were the bomb!!! Still have them in the basement just in case I get the balls to try them again. Not likely though.

Some of the monoskiers are still stuck in the 80/90s and like to ride their old pintails. So to everybody what he likes
I will never take my old Atomic ARCs from storage and use them again too
