It depends how aggressive your tip molds are I guess. When I first put my 3.0mm aluminium sheet in I thought I could simply press it into shape. I was wrong, they sprung back flat and I had to physically bend them to shape.
My molds have very mellow tip molds though

I use some alu than is used for custom bent window trim covering. Not sure of the ga., maybe 18-20??? My brother replaces windows and installs vinyl siding. I hit him up once a year for a couple 8 foot lenghts. they hold up pretty good.
I've even used thinner alu. Used for flashing material without any issues. I prefer the slightly thicker stuff though.
