elliptical sidecut

Does anyone know a good way to create an elliptical sidecut on SketchUp (which is what I'm using).

There's a sketchup tutorial on that issue, but I think you might struggle to acheive a meaningful result. Have you looked at Draftsight? You can trade files between the two applications with a ruby script.

I found that tutorial. I think making more contact points on the ellipse will enable a good shape.

Consider using 3 point arcs that. Meet at the waist of the ski. This gives you a nice shape with a slightly smaller radius up front than in back. This also solves placing the waist of the ski in the right spot.
