I'm out of ideas.
Yowza. I feel your pain.

However, here's an idea for you. "It doesn't work" is absolutely no help to anybody who wants to help you. In fact, for a problem that's been dragging on for a while, and where there have been detailed responses (not least my own) asking for detailed output, it's the kind of comment that makes support people start going postal.

It's the equivalent of saying "my ski press doesn't work" with no further information. We can't help.

So. Go back. Reread my posts. Carry them out, step by step. Post your results. Yes, all of them. All that shit that spews out in the command prompt, select it, "copy", go to your browser, click the "code" button above the comment box, make sure the cursor is between the "code" tags, "paste"

Now don't go doing anything rash Simon, going postal won't solve anything; ). I do apologize for my last post, I was just frustrated with my results after such an investment of time.
I tried holding the shift button while rt clicking on the jar file, but "copy to path" does not appear. "copy" is the only option, and it does not transfer the jar file to the command prompt. I tried it with 7 too and same result.
The click and drag doesn't get it over there either.
I also downloaded the jarfix thing to no effect.

When I double click the jar file, the image for snocad pops up, but it does not launch it just sits there like its loading.
I've tried launching from a snocad file that I had in my documents and the snocad image comes up and I get a window that says " microsoft jscript compilation error " and I have no option but to click "ok" , then a window that says "unable to launch" comes up.
A details box can be opened up but I can't rt click and copy it. If you need to see it I can type it all out but it would take me a while.
Again, I do appreciate your help Simon, and I'm sorry this has dragged out so long, but I have very limited time on the computer and getting all my files backed up and loading 7 took some time to do.
Thanks again, Art

No need to type it all! Just take a screenshot ;) In order to take a screenshot, just press the button on your keyboard that says "print" or "print screen" or an abbreviation of those. Then you open Microsoft Paint and click on the Paste icon in the upper left corner. After that you save the file and send it to tufty via email or you upload it to an image hoster like photobucket and post it here.

Hey Art, that's totally understandable. Having to spend time with Windows does that to me too.

"microsoft jscript compilation error"

That's a really bad sign. This is Java, not Javascript, and you can't rely on anything from Microsoft to deal with it.

When you upgraded to 7, did you reinstall a java runtime? What do you get from a command prompt if you type

Code: Select all

java -version
Strange the shift-right-click thing isn't working for you. Sure you're pressing shift *before* clicking, and holding it down during the action? Should look a bit like this:

Also, what Chris said.

Re-installed java and no good.
Typed in java -version in the command prompt and took a screenshot of the result(thanks Chris didn't know I could do that) the unable to launch window was in there too.

and this is the detail
[/img]]
As far as the shift rt click thing, no that does not come up for me in 7 nor when I was using vista. And yes I was holding down the shift key[/img]

You have no problem posting images. You need to get the tags the right way around. it starts with [ img ] and ends with [ /img ].

Windows isn't seeing java. At all. Which is why nothing is working.

Go to this page : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/ ... 80261.html

Download the relevant java installer. You want the offline installer, and depending on the version of Windows you're running, either the i586 or the x64 version. If you're not deliberately running a 64 bit version of windows, you want the offline i586 installer (the one that weighs in at 30.2MB).

Install it. Reboot. Try again.

Actually, belay my previous post.

Follow the instructions in the first section of this page to add java to your path : http://introcs.cs.princeton.edu/java/15 ... s-cmd.html

Bear in mind that your path to java will be different to the one they quote. Yes, you need to find the path to your java install. No, I can't help you with that.

Artski...
Are you trying to open existing snx files that you have saved on your computer?
I get the same error if I go into my ski design folder and try to open any files.
If I open up snocad from my desktop shortcut, then use that to open the files they all work.
The file from Dtrain here
http://www.mediafire.com/download/augvb ... oCAD-X.zip
should have put a shortcut on your desktop that will start up snocad.

You don't even have a legit signature, nothing to reveal who you are and what you do...

Best of luck to you. (uneva)

Thanks Sammer, but I had kinda given up on that. But I remembered that I had the shortcut on my old laptop so I put the file on a usb stick and moved it on to my main computer and tried it again.
It didn't work, but it did try to start normally in that the java image came up and it looked like it was loading but then the unable to launch window came up.Image
I tried the other procedures that Symon suggested with that file, but no good.
I tried launching on my old laptop and the java loading window stayed up longer, but in the end it was unable to launch either.
I guess draftsite is my only option now so I've been working on that.[/img]

You have bizarre problem.
I'm sure you've tried this but download it again in win7.
Don't change the destination, let it go where it wants.
open the download and extract it.
Then open the extracted file and double click on the jar file.
It works on my win7 machine without any problems, on my xp machine I have to right click to select winrar to extract it but still works the same.

Yeah, I did try your link and it was the same. I just can't believe that I'm the only one having a prob with this.
I did try making it a rar file too and that didn't work either.
Reloaded java, same result.javascript:emoticon(':|')

I'm on Vista and it worked for me. Download the file, extracted the folder to my desktop, open the folder and click on the SnoCAD-X.jar file. It should start Snocad.

(edit) for kicks I went out to Grafs site. Looks like he's back online, sort of. You can get SnoCad-x from his site now.
