which side of topsheet material bonds?

Post by JackJack »

I received some topsheet materials from board building suppliers in europe. There is no protective film on it and I have never used it before so am unsure which side is which.

One side is smooth and one side is matt. Which side has been treated for bonding and which side should I put a protective film on?

This is the plastic that I bought-

honestly if you don't know then you should stop right now and go back and do some reading.

You missed the basic fundamental laws of how this shit all sticks together.
mechanical bond with the mat/abraded side. duh.

Thanks for the honest answer Montuckymadman. Im not an idiot like you would like to think. I assumed the matt side was for bonding but the suppliers instructions read that the gloss side should bond. Duh

Are you sure there is no protective film - it would be embarrassing to find that the film became more obvious once pressed.

Just sayin'

^^ especially when it says;

Topsheet clear, 56cm width 15.00 €

clear glossy Topsheet (Duraclear), its covered with a thin protection film.

width : 56 cm
thickness : 0.3 mm

price is per meter.

Might just want to try to peel a piece.

just sayin'

I am sure there is no protective film, the guy who sent it said that he was out of the plastic with a protective film so he sent me plastic without a film.

If you knew the answer to the question why ask? If the maker says bond the smooth side try it. I doubt it will work very well.

i didnt know the answer, that is why I asked. I have now checked by cutting 2 samples and attempting to bond the gloss side and the matt side to some wood with epoxy.

The gloss side does bond better than the matt side. I think you should probably go and do some reading yourself you onion

never heard of a smooth material bonding better than the other, if they are both flame treated.

sorry, but i think your question can be answered easily by just reading the product description.
it's GLOSSY topsheet you ordered!! i guess that answers it.
and just for the record: topsheet gets abraded and then flame treated, so it's always the matte side that's supposed to bond.

Does the label of these pants go on the OUTSIDE? Dickhole in the back or front? Sorry Jack, it get's a little mean in here sometimes, but given the choice it's always matte side inside. 8)

Dear Jack Spancer,

Good to hear, that you could find the pacel finaly.
There is one side prepared for bonding, the other side is the matt finish. You should see it,

freundliche Grüße,
best regards,

Fabian Schäler
This is what confused me because i assumed the matt side was for bonding. I cut two pieces of the plastic and applied epoxy resin to the gloss side of 1 piece and the matt side of the other piece. I then put each piece epoxy side down onto a piece of sawn timber and applied pressure with a clamp. Once cured, the plastic which had the epoxy on the matt side peeled straight off. The plastic with the epoxy on the gloss side peeled off but was much more firmly stuck and took some of the wood with it.

Never mind. You got it...shiny side down. Good god, reading, apparently, is a lost art. I'm going to start using base material for the top now, because the epoxy I have doesn't work, then I'm going to finish this fifth of gin and hit the whole mess with a hammer...you know...to "test" it.
