I used the same epoxy as with all my other builds, QCM emv-0049 and eca-032. I was surprised on the way it failed. Could have been operator error..... The no edge fall surprised me a bit, was happy to see the way they came out.fa wrote:awesome!
(was it thin laminating resin the epoxy that didn't work?
if so, you could try with thick epoxy glue (30 or 60 min epoxy)
i use a cheap 3h thick epoxy to glue stuff. its 1:1 and it doesn't really mind if you re not very accurate with the hardener. works great for wood)
looking forward for the test report
btw, no edge fall on them

I cut the base out the same way as I do p-tex base. I used a template and router. Tacked the edges onto the wood veneer base w/ super glue.a.badner wrote:hey sd.
how did you cut the base to put the edges undder the materials?

Base treatment
So, been following this quite closely (I'm doing an all-wooden, edgeless, swallowtail, and gonna do an all-wooden skwal), here's some stuff I've found on base treatment:
Firstly, a popular science article on treating your skis, circa 1941 : http://tinyurl.com/65le5ne
The above mentions "ski lacquer", and as such things tend to be patented, I did a google patent search : http://www.google.com/patents?q=ski+lac ... ch+Patents - http://www.google.com/patents?id=w6RsAAAAEBAJ might be useful for mixing your own wax and / or lacquers.

Re: Base treatment
Thanks for the info. The Popular Science article is classic! I started reading some of the patents... Thats pretty dull reading, takes a page or 2 before you get to the real info.tufty wrote:So, been following this quite closely (I'm doing an all-wooden, edgeless, swallowtail, and gonna do an all-wooden skwal), here's some stuff I've found on base treatment:

Check out www.powderjets.com I sent him an email asking how he finishes the base. Hoping he'll reply w/ some helpful hints or techniques. Also sent him some pics of my all wood ski.
