Thanks Twizz!
SD, a few photo's of the edge set - rough finish, but you get the picture!
The expansion of the base does appear to re-shape the edge, but there are limits. I've checked the full length of each ski and this is the only defect - well except for all the epoxy. The down side to expansion is the small gap created between the two pieces - maybe.

Cheers guys - I'm still learning!
Vinman - I print directly on the veneer using a desktop printer. Just black at the moment - ink is UV resistant. Bit of sandpaper to stress the look of the font - can be done pre or post. Prefer pre - inspired by Sam. Veneer through the desktop laminator (twice), to dry the ink out, pre-press, otherwise it likes to run a bit. Just my ink, I think. Didn't show up in initial tests : (
Trying find a look that suggests the ski has its own value as an object. Graphics and so option to customise are being moved to the base. Make sense?
Yeah Brazen - spot on! I'm still learning about veneer and how to place and finish it. Helped by the morning light this time.
SD - yeah. I didn't sand the sidewall (Beech). Ash does need a bit of extra help. Expecting Maple to be like Beech. Trying to stay with indigenous species. Still sealing with ski wax mix - good use of shavings I'm following your glue sniffing exploits SD. Ingenious!

Rich, I like your look there. You've inspired me I might try direct printing on my veneer.
