4kw. I will use less in the future for shure, my first one was 2kw, that was plenty. I wanted to test fast heating. It has worked great til now though, i was able to get the temp. up to 80 in 1 minute.bigdog wrote:Bummer. How many watts could your gear pull.?
I have stayed away from kilowatts for this reason. Overnight a 100-200w will do 80C but takes time.

Just in case you are looking for a contact, I understand these guys manufacture much of what is used in the UK http://www.holroydcomponents.com/. Not too expensive, compared to Omega and MEI - last time I checked.
Not really. With a lot of power you have a lot of control.. until you loose it. like a nuclear powerplant, it is great til you get a meltdown.jvangelder wrote:80C in one min? While that is quick, wouldn't that cause a bunch of uneven heating throughout the mold and press making it press differently?
I'm sure you've got good reasons for doing this, but at my work (hand lay-up, pre-preg carbon, autoclave cure) we ramp up the cure temp at a rate of 1-8 degrees F/minute. Then we have a dwell time half way to final temp. We definitely don't blast straight to final temp. But on my ski press that's a different story. Straight to final temp.endre wrote:Not really. OMG!!!
So scary.
We use an external temp prob on the bottom cassette. If we ramped straight to temp the blanket would call for way to much heat, i assume.
We take about 30 min to get to temp and then soak for 1 hour. Bottom heat only.
Maybe we are going excessively slowly but some of the tests we have done 15 min to temp and half an hour soak and the top was not cooked.
