This is a pair of mogul skis I used last year and ended up breaking. I decided to cut them up to see what was inside. Thought people might appreciate seeing it. They performed very well on ice and groomers but weren't the best in softer snow. They also broke pretty fast. I'm pretty small and they only lasted 2 months. I'm pretty sure the layers went something like this:
Base
Edges
Rubber
Woven biaxial fiberglass, 2 layers
1/32" metal sheet
rubber
core and sidewalls, vertically laminated
rubber
Woven biaxial fiberglass
1/32" metal sheet
topsheet

A couple things I noticed that were interesting were that they used woven glass (can anyone think of a reason?), and that they had a ton of metal. two full layers of 1/32" seems like quite a bit.

I've been trying to figure out what made them so weak (lots of people I ski with also broke them in the same place). Any ideas?

Were you doing anything crazy on them when they broke?
