paper printed topsheet - resin seeping through?

Post by sir.orange »

to keep costs of my skies as small as possible i d like to print my graphics on paper in one piece covering teh whole ski.
i did some mock ups with 100gr/sqm paper printed with a small office printer but had to deal with the problem, that the resin wets out the paper completly, which becomes nearly transparent.
my graphics are mainly white with plack/grey patterns. so it s important to keep a deep white on the surface without any semi transparent layers..

my idea is to put some additive to the resin, to make it complety deep white to serve as the white ground layer on teh ski. will the black/grey patterns also suffer from the seeping through of the white resin??

If you put white pigment in your resin, most definitly it will make your graphics look cloudy as the resin is going to seep on top of your graphics layer.

My last pair of skis I had a small pig cartoon on the tips and I printed those on inkjet photo paper. The paper stayed perfectly opaque, no translucency at all. I'm not sure if you can get photo paper long enough or in rolls to do a continuous length of your ski, but its worth looking into it.

I'd be wary about using photo paper the full length of your ski. A small logo probably isn't an issue, but I think full length might cause delamination. I don't imagine the epoxy bonds well to the glossy side of the photo paper.

in tried a paper which is recommended for outdoor use, it s specially treated similar to photo paper. the paper wasn t wet out completly so the top layer of epoxy could be peeled of very easily including the print

i guess there s no other way than to use fabric or directly printed pe like p-tex!!??
