Industry Pressure

Post by flatlander »

Apologies for being off forum for a bit, was studying abroad in Aussie, not that anyone missed me :(. Industry related question, what is the typical pressure for bladder molding or injection molded skis/ boards? I know injection PU skis are pressed at the pressure of the reacting foam on the closed mold surface, any idea what that may be?

From what hints of information published online I am assuming bladder molded skis are pressed over 100psi. Anyone be able to assist? Endre, CADman?

Cheers guys, Steve.

Volkl has a factory tour on their international web site, in image #14 they state:

"All components are baked together in the ski press at 100 °C and 9 bars of pressure for 36 minutes."

Thats 135 psi. I think all their molds are "closed cavity" style.

I like how their edges are pre shaped, welded, ready to attach to the bases. (photo #3)
