I beams on Seattle CL

Post by Myrtle »

This is an FYI for those looking to build a press. I'm sourcing materials for a Happy Monkey style press frame and ran across these I-beams for sale (The powers that be won't let new users post URLs, so just search "steel beam" in CL/Seattle/Materials).

These look like W12-58 beams, based on the flange width of 10". This would make a 20" wide cavity as opposed to the 16" cavity obtained when using W12-40 like Happy Monkey's press. This is probably overkill and would make your press 700 lbs heavier than the HM design. Not for me, but I know there is rampant I-beam lust on this forum. So drool away!
