pmc-790

Post by the.quass »

Hey guys,
I tried to order some smooth-on pmc-790 from Australia and new Zealand's sole supplier. They are out of the trial kits and have said they won't have more for at least 8 weeks. They have the gallon kits but... Bit much for little old me.

Any Aussies want to split a big batch?
Any lovely Americans/canadians want to post some to me? I can get it delivered to you and pay for postage.

I know of retailers that will send to you. Canada to Aus could be 3 weeks delivery! And a huge cost. Twice as much as the product itself!

Hey dtrain, hmm. It cost me 93AUD dollars to buy it in oz and get it delivered last time . That's about 87USD. 3 weeks is better than 8. Maybe I will look at a different product instead

Hey dtrain, thanks again. I am going to ring smooth-on directly tomorrow and see the costs direct from them. Will sing out if that doesn't work.

An option you could try is to get the tech details of 790 and call Nuplex
http://www.nuplex.com/Specialties/conta ... -locations
They will probably have something very similar and if so will give you contact info for retail purchases.
Let us know if they have something good too ;)

Hey Guys,
I called the states and they have said that they can't mail it to me either.
I will most likely just sample another product. Seems easier. I spoke to their tech support team and will either try out

Smooth Cast Semi Rigid 65D
http://www.smooth-on.com/Urethane-Plast ... index.html
or
Clear Flex 95
http://rowetrading.com.au/Clear-Flex-Po ... arch=clear

I will need to read up on their properties a bit and then order tonight.
Dtrain, thanks heaps for the offer. It would have ended up costing a small fortune for the shipping so might not do that.

Hi mate,

I have probably half a trail one PMC790 here in Perth.

No use for it atm. It's filled with nitrogen. Let me know...

Hey Guys,
I took Gav's advice and gave Nuplex a call.
they sent me over to a company called ERAPOL here in Australia (Sydney)

I have spoken to them and they have supplied the spec's for their version PMC-790. I am thinking about buying it. Looks to be very close.
It's +5 on the shore hardness (95a) has a tensile strength of >3000 and an elongation of 500%

Here is a comparison of the spec's.
Thoughts? I really don't have much of an idea what all that stuff means, all I know is that it's similar...

305 mate but you must use a pressure chamber IMO.
In an hour I can rout the core, pour the sidewalls and be profiling the core with results that I think most guys would be surprised by.

Ask them how it behaves at cold temperatures. No bubbling sounds strange...my supplier told me that every PU bubbles to some extent, especially when it comes into contact with water. Most PU types even start to bubble from ambient moisture (like in wood or air).
