Carbonized Bamboo vs Natural Bamboo

Post by Skierguy »

Has anyone used carbonized bamboo as a core material? My understanding is that is a little bit softer as a result of carbonizing process. (20- 30% from what I have read).

I am a little leery of using the carbonized as my inclination would be to thicken the profile slightly to compensate for the softer material. I am curious of the carbonizing process's affect on dampness. Will it increase the dampness of the bamboo?

I use carbonized because that's what I got
It makes rideable skis
I can't really compare to natural as I haven't made any other core materials, sorry.
Carbonised does seem to be OK though.
