Graphics application

Post by Greg »

For graphics, I am trying a really simple idea. I am using a clear topsheet, so the wood cores will be visible. This gave me the idea to just stain the cores. My only worry is that the epoxy won't bond well with the stained portion of the ski, but from previous work with epoxy my dad and I decided that a little stain shouldn't hurt the bonding much. We will see when it all sets up, but the cores certainly look pretty good with stained on bubble letters.

Nice, I'd like to see pictures when done. I've been thinking of using stained wood.

You have to be careful with the stains though. Certain oil based stains will weaken the epoxy adhesion. It is probably best to stay away from oil based products to be safe. Water based and aniline dyes work the best. I've heard that Rit dyes (found at any fabric store and grocery stores) also work well and have bright colors.
