Protecting sidewalls while profiling

I know this has been posted before (probably several times) but I truly cannot find it:
Do you guys find that running a wood stringer outside of your plastic (UHMWPE whatever lol) sidewalls is effective for protecting them from being destroyed during profiling?
If so, how are you all attaching this outer stringer in a way that can be removed after profiling?
If not, what is a better way?
I've seen these pictures on the forum but they are suddenly elusive.
Also, I am using a planer which is probably relevant info.
Can anyone link me to the posts where this been discussed? I only bought enough sidewall for 1 pair right now and would rather not pay shipping again.
Thanks and happy Monday! Let it snow.
