PTTR,
The reason I have used tapered rockers is that if the ski is tilted and the side cut falls within a certain range the edge will engage and the ski will feel hooky. A tapered rocker will keep the rocker's edge from engaging even as the ski is tilted at a high angle. When not tilted then the rocker provides lift.
The idea is to not have the side cut protrude into the hookiness zone. It is possible to have the sidecut extend fully into the rocker and not experience any trouble with hooking.
In my previous post I showed a ski that I modified to make it more tapered in the tip. Before I did this the tips hooked on me a few times at high speed. It was sudden, unexpected and actually turned me around once. After I modified them this problem vanished.
