Die cut problem

Sorry if this is already discussed, but we did not find clear answer of our questions.

Our new board is made with die cut base. We assembled the pieces using paint masking paper tape.

After pressing the tape was covered with epoxy. We thought that everything will be ok after grinding… but the grinder can`t remove that shit. The white ptex is very thin now (you can see even the VDS trough it).





The base is really flat, so the problem is not in the shape…

What are you using to hold die cut pieces together?
How can we avoid the epoxy squeezing from the gaps?

I guess you can't really avoid epoxy seeping through the joints. The culprit here seems to be the tape which is able to soak up the epoxy and bond to the base. Most companies seem to use regular packing tape which does not stick to epoxy and can be removed easily right after pulling the board from the press.

+ masking tape is quite thick compared to cheap packing tape... by the time you ground the masking tape you already removed a lot of base material everywhere else on the snowboard.

Use medipore or micropore paper first aid tape inside the layup in small pieces. Don't do the whole joint though. Just enough to keep the dice cut in place

how did you do your die cutting. you guys aquire a CNC, and what kind of knife you using?

We used CNC router, found nearby for this project. No idea about the bit, for sure it is very small size (<2 mm in diameter). There is a bit waste ptex, but the CNC did the job well - the pieces fit without any big gaps.

A buddy that works for a big time snowboard co. gave me that tip. Also say that if you do the whole joint it will delam. He says the expoxy needs to infiltrate the joint to full bond the die cut inlay.
