Light weight cotton fabric from Joannes Fabrics.

They're done. Bindings mounted tonight. I'll clean the bases later. Each ski weighs in at 8lbs 1 oz. Hoping for snow or at least some cold weather, not looking too good. Anyway here's the final pic:

And the next ski? My long awaited poly-u glue ski.

Each ski?!? That cloth is a super soaker of epoxy! NO WAY that pair weighs 16 pounds. Say it ain't so SD?!?

Bret/Ben you're right I was way off! They weigh 3lbs 9oz each. My scale only goes to 6lbs. My scale is a cheapo kitchen scale, it's not even digital

. I misread the scale (obviously!), I read the 8oz as 8lbs and the next line/mark as 1 oz, hence 8lbs 1oz. DUH! I should have known cuz they didn't feel that heavy.

Thanks for catching that!

And the BTSR 4:1 for the entire build, so no excuses.

New skis in the works. This will be another ski used for racing. The ski dims:

Length - 175cm
Core dims - 3-12-3 (maybe 3-13-3)
Ski dims - 114-68-100
Wood Core - Another wood blended core. Similar to the previous ski, 20inches of ash for the binding area, douglas fir in the middle in front/behind the binding area, Maple sidewalls.
FG - 22 oz
Topsheet - Ash Burl veneer

The previous ski is on the soft side but I like the flex. So I'm making this core a bit thicker.

Also for this build I made new tip/tail forms. They are the same dims as my others. These are plywood (it's what I had). The old ones were getting beat up and I think were causing some dents from epoxy overflow on my first couple pair of a skis I made. It was just as easy to make new ones than try to sand the epoxy off the old ones.

Also I'm going to make a test strip of a layup using poly-u glue in place of epoxy. I did some tests on this topic awhile ago. In this test I'll make a sample tip and see if it will hold it's shape as well as epoxy does. If it does, I'll use poly-u glue for this build.

That's it for now. Back to gluing up my wood core and tip experiment.

Looks like the poly-U glue will hold the shape. I glued a sample yesterday. Used a sample of ash burl veneer to see what it will look like. The sample consists of ptex base, 22oz FG, 3mm poplar veneer (2 - 1.5mm sheets), 220z FG and ash burl veneer. All held together w/ polyurethane glue.

I did not moisten any of the materials as the glue suggests and noticed the glue did not expand as much as it did in my other tests from the spring time.

So this build is on. I'll have updates over the next week or 2.

I did try to flex the sample above and it's firm. So there's only one thing left to do and that's make a ski and see how well it works or doesn't work.

I'm not worried about it's ability to bond. If anything I worry that the ski may lose it's camber quicker over time because of the glue and FG may weaken, but there's only 1 way to find out.

But the test samples I made overt he summer along with the test I did indicate it should work.

The all wood ski I just made skis fine and it was made using Poly-U glue.

btw - I'll put the sample in the freezer for awhile and see if that has any adverse effects.
