can i fix messed up core?

hi guys, managed to screw up one of my cores that i'm working on while I was profiling them. don't ask me exactly how this happened, but i'm using a router bridge and my mind went somewhere else for a little bit. it's a splitboard core, and as you can see i went straight through it where the center ...

Re: m5 inserts for split clips

the JS inserts are only 12mm in diameter (flanges) so they will definitely fit, i've checked that already and as chrismp suggests its easy enough to grind the sides to prevent them from rotating. my only concern with them is the height. the total height is only 3.1mm, with about 2mm of threads. i ha...

Re: m5 inserts for split clips

hey thanks mammuth,

i actually found the ones from skilab, but their shipping is $70....

i suppose china is definitely an alternative, its just the lead-times can be > 1 month.

these are the ones i have, would you have dared to try them?

Re: m5 inserts for split clips

Yeah i noticed they wouldn’t work.

I found some that i think will work better, they’re called
”weld bolts” in swedish.

If the flange happens to be too big i’ll just grind them down a bit.

m5 inserts for split clips

hey, curious how other people solved integrating inserts for split clips in order to avoid drilling straight through the skis. my plan is to make two different core profile jigs, where I start with the profile that has a slight raise (2mm) in the core where the m5 inserts go. once profiled with that...

core hardwood inserts

hey all, making a split with poplar + paulownia core. i didn't laminate the core myself and unfortunately the inserts end up exactly in a paulownia stringer. my core is 7.7mm thick where the inserts go, but i'm still thinking i'll drop in some harder wood just where the inserts go. the plan is just ...

Re: Acrylic painted artwork Q

alright thanks for that, i'll definitely test before going live.

the MTN94 cans i ordered are colors, and not their varnish. I'll be using 2K solvent based marine varnish on top of the MTN94 colors.

Re: split before or after base grind

oh yeah, apologies for being so vague. My first build was a 163 splitboard, powder-oriented. Set-back camber between the feet, long rockered nose, short rockered tail. 315 tip 260 waist 305 tail Bamboo core Ash veneer top sheet It turned out a bit "dull" and too soft. My core thickness pro...

Re: Acrylic painted artwork Q

nice, looking good! Thanks for sharing the process. Would you say you would have needed the primer? Waiting on a couple of Montana MTN94 cans to be delivered. But want to achieve slight transparency so the top sheet is slightly visible underneath the color. But maybe the primer is needed for adhesio...

split before or after base grind

my first (and only build so far) was a splitboard that turned out pretty decent.

on that one i did the split before the base grind. it turned out alright, but i'm wondering if doing the split prior to the
base grind would facilitate better odds of getting the two bases even?

Re: traditional flex scale (1-10) translated

thanks for the insight chrismp. i might go up a mm in core thickness to account for the split.
