Yeah I'd like to stop by some time but it's quite a ways from SoCal. Unless it snows then it might be another good incentive to head out there.

I ordered my topsheet material from Durasurf and basically it's half the thickness of base material. Same stuff just thinner. We actually tried using regular base material for the top sheet on one of our skis (The Red Oktober) and it worked well. 1/2" thickness for sidewall and 2-3mm for tipspa...

Hey Dave, I can't really inform you too much about the edges and VDS material since that seems to be Kelvin's area of expertise. But you can get most of the other materials such as the base material, topsheet material, sidewall, and tipspacer material all from Durasurf for relatively cheap prices. Y...

are you making a pair of capped skis? if not your layers should not be precut to shape unless you have some kind of cassette or other mechanism to keep them aligned.

here's an old article explaining one way to build and use a planer: http://skibuilders.com/articles/planerprofiler.shtml. I would skip the protruding screws and use hotglue to hold your core down onto the wedge.

I've been waiting to hear about the foam skis as well :D

I'm sure Kelvin's still testing them out and will report on them soon.

Re: Delamination due to edge material

I'm not an expert about the sandblasting issue but I've never sandblasted my edges before and they seemed to have bonded well. All of my delamination issues were a result of tipspacer problems. As for this question: 2) Is it feasible to bend the edge material round the tips without anealing or is th...

I've used all three types of titebond and honestly I can't tell the difference. I haven't seen Buuk glue before but if it's made for wood I'm sure it'll work.

I use Titebond for my cores as well. It's cheaper than epoxy (right?) and is much easier to work with. Rivets will definitely add strength to your tips. I had a few problems with some of my tips because of experimentation with different tipspacer materials and rivets have always saved them. But I'd ...

I am sure that Kelvin and the Kams would agree with me that once you get several pairs of skis, the added durability that goes with umwhpe sidewalls is just not necessary. From my experience, the ski will completely delaminate long before the sidewalls become an issue ;) . Definitely. I stopped wit...
