I think I've skied about every tele binding there is except the Linken, and 90% of my skiing is BC (50 to 100 days a year). I really can't remember a time when I've had an issue with ice build-up. So, I'd definitely have to say that you don't need to assume that every tele binding is going to have t...

Is there a continental difference between epoxys? I haven't heard/read any (i haven't read ALL posts) specific problem from europeans or down under. While NA seems to have all kind of problems with your epoxy mixes? Just a reflection Smile I can't speak to other problems you may have heard/read abo...

You're welcome des. The way information flies around the internet now-a-days, if someone were to post that they had received a 'bad batch' of material from a particular supplier, and even if later that was shown to not be the case, a certain amount of damage could still have been done to that suppli...

Here's some more detailed info on the plastic containers and the problem I encountered. The hardener component I use (ECA-032) is shipped in 1 gallon metal paint cans. For the last 2 or 3 years, I poured out of the 1 gallon cans into some 16 oz. squeeze bottles that I picked up from a local hardware...

My Visit at Forrest Paints (new epoxy resin supplier)
I decided to start a new thread for this topic, but this thread closely follows on the heals of http://www.skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3141 I just returned a couple of days ago from a trip to Portland, and on my way back south, I stopped by Forrest Paint in Eugene to pick up a few buckets...

For starters, 140/110/130'ish is my favorite all-round ski dimension for a soft'ish snow ski. If you match the flex properly, it'll float surfy turns in light snow, yet will still edge reasonably well when laid over on firmer snow. It's a little wide for much more than a few chargin' runs on hard gr...

As a further update, I just spoke with a woman named Debbie Brooks at the Kent, Washington Forest Tech Coatings facility, and placed an order through her. She did say, however, that the primary contact person for ordering epoxy products (former QCM stuff) is Greg Davis, who is located at the Eugene,...

Hey MM, I'm sure you were just readin' too fast, but the $5.50 price is for 31.5mm wide material. So, they're taking 50 inch wide material and dividing it 4 times. That takes the price per yard to $22 for standard width material... ouch. Slow down son, and read the fine print. :D Hope you didn't ord...

Ha... I just saw skidesmonds's new performance term in the 'Apr'es ski building' section... 'boingy-boingy'. Cool... I like it. As a moderator of this forum (by reason that no one has stepped in to take my place), I hereby declared it illegal to use the phrase 'pop and snap', and thereby require tha...

No, I've never actually tried using aluminum in a ski. I've known it wouldn't help with damping, and I get the stiffness I want just from manipulating the thickness of the core material. Any benefit that metal might provide in terms of stiffness, is negatively offset by it's potential bonding proble...

There's a rather huge mis-conception in the ski/snowboard world that metal in a ski is a good damping material. In reality, metal is terrible at damping. It is, however, a very good stiffening element, which is why it's used in race skis. So, after years of reading and hearing about using metal in a...

Heating the bearing will damage the bearing seals and liquefy the grease, causing it to run out of the bearing. Virtually all pillow block type bearings are designed for a sliding fit over the shaft, and then use some sort of locking mechanism to tighten the bearing to the shaft. Most of the better ...
