Fish scale test# 2

I took the plunge and carved steps in the base of my early season beater split board. The board'll be for those first dumps when you climb at resorts to avoid rocks and bushes. hopefully I got a reasonable glide to climbing ratio. I can always add more steps if it doesnt climb. Comeonnnn snooowww!!!...

Personally I'd use mdf because by the time you cut and glass the foam you could have made a form with mdf which is a WAY better material to use. Mdf is just very heavy to move around.

I've heard letting epoxy harden on your skin is best for your health because if you wash it the epoxy gets diluted and absorbs into your skin more.
When I have to clean my hands butter works great. Yea cow butter.

I agree powder doesn't drag much. I tried going downhill with skins on my board and was happy how well it slid.
The trailing edge of your scale pockets meet the running surface of the base with an angle instead of a smooth transition. As long as you're happy with them that's all that matters.

Wicked!!! That's a serious climb! Did you have to boot climb in the end?Good call on Lassen. I got it for four days around May 12. The road was closed at sulpher works so we mostly hung out around Brokeoff and Diller. https://vimeo.com/42218562 Here's a vid I made for my partners that shows the cond...

Thanks for the link. I'm still braining on my board for next season. I think it'll have a pocket in the base for a section of skin right under your foot when climbing. And some fishscales in strategic places. I tried making scales with a razor sharp chisel and they came out really slick. No fuzzy ed...

You just blew me out of the water! I thought I was the strangest poster here.
Sounds like you need a super wide split board to me.

In my testing of probably close to a 100 different skis in the last five years I have come to the conclusion that so many theories work. There really aren't any rules anymore. It all depends on what you are trying to achieve and it takes some experimentation. Or you can simply design something clos...

Seems like that design wouldn't hold an edge as well as the standard designs but less likely to catch an edge.
