For an all mountain ski (in pist and outside of it) I would build them with as long an activ edge as possible. But your dimensions sounds fine to me. Another thing that I have buildt into my own allmountain ,and pist, skis are a "agressiv" short rocker/early rise. - a very sharp transition...

that is insane. It cannot be worth the effort. but it sure makes snowboard building look difficult and hightech.

Is it really that bad to not use vds?

Hepp I have been using vds in all of my skis so far. And I have read many times here on the forum of the effect it has. - but is it true? Does it really matter that much? Has anyone tried without (or forgotten to use) and what was the experience? The reason I'm asking is because i have started to pl...

I made a touring telemark ski last season with abachi and birch stringers. 135-100-122 at 173. It came down to 1,3 kg per ski. The abachi is almost as light as balsa but looks and feels like "real" wood. There is elm in the binding area and birch veneer in tip and tail. http://farm8.static...

Couldn't agree more with Sam and Twizz. Way stiff, way, heavy, way expensive. Get your process down then get fancy. I have now made 19 pair. I'm just getting to the point that I'm willing to take a chance on exotic material experiments. I'm going to try for a lightweight ski this season. Basswood c...

I have built skis for two seasons now and I improve my time on every pair. the first pair took about two weeks and the last pair took me exatly 12 hours from start to finish. (with 3 types of wood in the core) I make 2 and somtimes three passes with my router but I make full woodcores which I screw ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UjDQCqAcDE A hotwater rocket driven kicksled. 0-100km/h in 4s Climbing skins are fine but.. In a more serious note (serious, well..) I think the fun part in kicksled extrem riding (like beeing towed behind a car) is the way it steers and I think you would loose that i...

So it did work!

This is the most fun I have had in a groomed pist in a long time. It really does feel like 100 mph. It's a psykological ski. As long as I look ahead they ski just fine but as soon as I look down I freak out 'cause there is nothing there.

I might be a little slow but.. there is no radius but instead strait segments? Works like these "saw tooth" snowboards (LIBtech?) with pressure points so to speak, for better grip? and on the link it looked like there was no tipp and tail but on the picture it seems to have at least a smal...

Trying once more to get this going.. If the hill is small, design your skis so it feels like you go 100 mph when you go 20, is the basic thougt. 140 cm long, 62-43-57. 17 meter radius with assymetric bootcenter. "Pimp my skatebinding" and a small aggressiv rocker to kick in the turns. I'm ...

This is how I do it now. I used to do the "glue up a stack and resaw" but think this is a lot simpler.

I tried it on a pair that used to have flat camber with great result. Have had a couple of hours on snow and they seem to keep up. This is so cool! I wonder how many times you can do this. thinking.. ...portable press-changing skis/boards with the weather!... I put some extra shims in the camber and...

I would try construction plywood if it is for a slam-slum-bamm- board. Buy a 12mm 8x4 and rip it up and profile. Or maybe check different thicknesses to see fiberdirections. The layers are thick in construction plywood and with a little bit of detective work I am sure you can get the cores to be mad...

This thread is old but interesting! I only use fiberglass in my ski. And after reading this I think that I will continue to do so. Is the conclusion here that the only thing that Carbon does is to reduce weight? doughboyshredder, twizzstyle, skidesmond and others, do you have anything to add to this...
