Smooth cut finish
When you trim the fiberglass flash off of the pressed ski, does anyone else have a problem with short fiberglass ends sticking out all along the perimeter. I am trimming on a wood bandsaw set at a high speed with a brand new blade...and still there is a furry fiberglass seam. how do ski companies se...

Resin Dye
Anyone use any craft store dyes in order to dye their resin. I want to make my clear resin black. I have graphite powder which I could use, but if it is used for every layer, I am not sure how the graphite will effect the lamination strength. So I thought maybe black fabric dye would work...basicall...

adhereing ABS
The epoxy resin I use during the layup cannot adhere the ABS topsheet. I was recently told that this is because the layup resin is too rigid. Is this true? Why? Finally, what epoxy will work that is affordable by the gallon? Will this adhere better than simply making the surface of the ABS sheet an ...

From my research I have found that MEK is used as a solvent for ABS in solvent welding. So basically ABS can be made into a cement if mixed with MEK so that the ABS becomes a slurry...it solidifies when the solvent evaporates. If I brushed on a light layer of MEK on my ABS sheet, would this help adh...

G-man: what was the finish on the Abs sheet before you started treating it? Ours is a haircell finish on one side, so its already rough. I was thinking about the plumbing treatments too...have you ever tried ABS primer from the hardware store? I dont know if it only works with abs cement, or if it w...

I actually just recieved my abs sheets today. It IS formable grade and has one side shiny, one side haircell. Looks like the haircell can be made bondable easily. Its already rough, i might just solvent wash it and flame treat before pressing. My main concern is how durable it will turn out. I reall...

yes, i have done many longboards with iron ons. works great actually. I had a layer of texalium as my topsheet layer and ironed onto composite layer directly. the only thing is to make sure that you resin over the surface of the iron on because resin wont pull through that area of the fabric. other ...

no...you will have to heat the durasurf material to atleast 250F in order to form it over the cap. we recently did this at 290F and the plastic formed great, but shrunk too much to use again for the press. this means we will have to thermoform the topsheet DURING the press so that it cures to the sk...

AHMA BC topsheet info
I am looking to use black ABS for topsheets also. How did this workout as a topsheet? How difficult was it to adhere? I found a supplier that offers .030" thick sheets with one side haircell. I am not sure how rough that is, but hopefully it will help with adhesion. Any first hand feedback?

very nice skis...came out clean and your process is very well recorded. When you made your second bases, your edges stopped before the tips, correct? If so, how did you shape the base, did it have a lip coming out around the tip to match where the edge ended? If not it seems that the edge would snag...
