G-man -
I have always wanted to make it out your direction (I assume reno/tahoe) for some spring peak bagging but I don't think it will happen this season. We might need to organize something for next year.

Kam, you are going to get me in trouble with the missus. ;) Just today we figured out that this Saturday would be the first one in a long time that I wouldn't be skiing, hiking or doing something other than housework. A honeydo list quickly materialized. Regardless I will make it work. I'll shoot yo...

Wow it took a while for me to get back to this thread but today is my skibuilders catch up day so here we go. Carver - I actually do have my first home builts mounted with solly demo's. The idea was to use the demo's to find the right mounting point then to swap them out with regular bindings once I...

My skis got their third base prep in as many weeks of life. The silicon carbide worked much better than aluminum. I ran them dry (borrowed belt sander) so it still takes some time and patience but the end result is good. I would also like to highly recomend ensuring that your bases are flat to any s...

welcome steezy, There are two ways to make your edges stronger: 1. Make them thicker. Depending on the skis you are riding the 1.3 mm* edges you buy from this site are likely to be thicker than those on production skis. 2. Make them stronger. Ski edges get measured in Rockwell units (higher number e...

HaHa G-man - I knew if I kept asking questions you would eventually tell me to figure it out myself. No worries, I am just a curious (and thankfully alive) cat. I do like what you said about the possibility of beating the big boys. Other industries (software) have shown that when a dedicated, passio...

Hey G-man, you beat your skis with a metal bar and they show cosmetic damage? You must be ashamed. :D I would be interested to hear a little more about your chamfer process if you are willing to share. Are you using a specialty bit on one of your many routers or can this be accomplished with a mill ...

Sorry this took so long. It's been snowing almost every day in Utah which for me has a cascading effect of ski all morning so I stay late at work to catch up so I am very tired by end of day. Of course I am not complaining. :D Hafte - Awesome information there. I really appreciate you taking the tim...

With all of the tools in place it was time to get to the point and build some skis. In keeping with my multimedia effort please play the music in this link in the background while reading this post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buMYRxTNifo In order to explain the design phase I actually have to ma...

Great info as always G-man. You are very right aluminum oxide does zilch on bases but I have found worked fairly well on my edges. I supposed I will run silicon carbide for base high situations and aluminum for edge high. Or just use my files to lower the edges. Also good information on the finer gr...
