The bitchin' camaros are the same as the little wings, but with a different topsheet. They have nothing fancy in them, just maple/birch woodcore, fiberglass and the usual base, edges and vds rubber. Wood sidewalls and tips. I made them to be a good quick all around ski. They are fairly short (170cm)...

A router is definitely something you don't want to skimp on. I've got the Bosch 1617 and have been pretty happy with it. You can usually find the kit (1617evspk) on sale from Amazon. You will want to get one with a plunge base.

The edges are already sandblasted. I just wipe them really well with acetone. After a while, the edges can start developing some surface rust. If that's the case, I would sand them with the roughest sandpaper you can find.

Robogeek,
some jigsaw blades have offset teeth and could catch on the edge. I usually use Bosch t101b blades.

Heat really kills the blade fast. A little oil, or cutting fluid helps the blade last a little longer.

In order for the bit to work the top bearing has to be the same diameter as the top of the cutter head. This is what I use: Freud [62-103] 1/2" OD by 1/4" ID Replacement Ball Bearing Freud [22-106] 3/4" Diameter 7-Degree Dovetail Router Bit with 1/4" Shank Freud [62-331] 1/4"...

I used a 1/8" sheet of UHMW plastic on top (bought from TAP plastics). It makes a very smooth surface and epoxy does not stick to it. It does deform with heat.

Yes, before mixing. The harder thins the mixture so it's not necessary to heat the mixed epoxy, unless it is really cold ambient temp.

I use acetone for most cleaning.

Bambi,
We use QCM-0049 and it is really thick. It helps to heat it prior to use. I use a little electric space heater pointed at the can.

I would suggest using 2 controllers or getting a 2 zone controller. That way you can change the temp of the top and bottom independently. I plan on doing that to our press soon.

We used to use tape, but it is more trouble than it is worth. The little bit of epoxy that gets on the base comes off after a base grind. Tape also doesn't work in a heated press. If you still want to use tape, use good quality Scotch brand packing tape. It is clear and thicker than the cheap stuff ...

Yes, plastic will melt. Use parchment paper instead. It's available in the baking section of your grocery store.

We are waiting for Durasurf to get their act together and actually ship some material. We finally did get a shipment of base material (black and blue) and tipspacer (white); it is available on our online store now. We are still waiting for topsheet and sidewalls.
