Here is the link......... http://www.sollerpaddles.com/composites/carbon%20fiber%20fabric.html#Zylon I haven't really been able to determine in laymans term what weight carbon fiber would be similar in strength to a standard weight of fiberglass. I.E. would a 6 oz carbon fiber weave have the same st...

Nice. Once I get a functional press going I might build a hardboot carving board. Been a long time since I rode a pair of hardboots though. Are you going to swallowtail it, like the old sims burners? Nice book matched core! Damn, where did all the wood go? Seriously. I am surprised that you could on...

One leg of the 240 goes to one wire. The other leg goes to the other wire. The ground is unnecessary. 115v is one hot leg (115) and a neutral. 240 is one hot leg (115) and another hot leg (115) to give you 220-240 volts. There is no neutral in a 240v system. If you take an electrical meter and put o...

I think my templates will all be laser cut steel. Pretty reasonably priced and much more common than water jet cutting.

This stuff looks like it might be useable in some capacity. 1/8" maybe for tip / tail material. 3/8" for core material on a snowboard. Might be fun to play with.

I believe that one of the main functions of the rubber vibration dampening strip is to assist in lamination by allowing there to be a flexible space between the metal of the edges and the glass. I remember reading somewhere on this site about the different thermodynamic properties of the material in...

I have finally acquiesced to using I beams for my main construction.
http://www.efunda.com/math/areas/Rolled ... sRltsW.cfm is a list of wide flange beams. I am going to use W10-49 beams. two on the bottom, two on the top. This will give me a 20" width which should work pretty well.

Thanks for all the input. I am amazed to find out that in order to withstand 70 PSI my press frame must be able to handle a 100,000lb load. New design uses I-beams and replaceable shims for camber / rocker adjustment. I will post some pics once construction is underway.

Hard to believe how strong grade 8 bolts with a 3/4" diameter are. Supposedly 50,000 lb breaking strength. http://dodgeram.org/tech/specs/bolts/SA ... ength.html

I left out from my sketch the nuts. One on the inside, one on the outside. By loosening the nuts you can rotate the camber guides. Because the thread is offset, turning the guide changes the height of the guide. There will then be a thin steel plate that sits on the top of the camber guides. How the...

Do I even need to go all the way to 70 PSI? It seems the higher the better, but is 70 overkill?

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1063/1405103380_c643f4261a_b.jpg The rollers allow you to adjust for as much camber or rocker as is desired. I can't imagine that there would be any flex or breakage in the press design with the 1/2" thick steel plate reinforced by the square tube. I think the th...

Press construction.

Howdy all. Great site here. I love seeing the different equipment you all have built. I have finally decided to build a pneumatic press so I can try and build some snowboards, and maybe some approach skis. My press design incorporates adjustable camber and adjustable / replaceable tip and tail block...
