You can only have as much concavity as you have thickness of base material. So if you have 1.2mm thick p-tex (like I do) then you can only have 1.2mm deep concavity, at that point in order to grind the edges down far enough for the base to be flat, you will have ground completely through the p-tex o...

Thats right, there is no VDS between the sidewall and the core, the VDS is on top of the edges. I did NOT sand the core/sidewall after it was profiled, I guess I just assumed the profiling with the router made it rough enough (but its pretty smooth). So maybe just sanding the core really good, and f...

And just a quick note on how the skis skied on saturday... The tails are very soft (what I wanted), but maybe too soft, and the tips are too stiff (wanted them also soft). Not sure why, I wonder if I had the core shifted in the profiling jig, I never checked thickness of the core front and back befo...

Don't mean to bring up an old thread, but I felt it needed some updating. The original posts were some pictures of the clamp press I built a few years back when in school. The skis were complete crap, basically unskiable. It's amazing what a few years can do. I now know MUCH more about ski construct...

I'll give my little bit of advice here. A few years ago I tried making a clamp press. At the time I thought it was awesome, I only pressed two skis, and they were completely unskiable, but I was still very proud. Looking back, I can't believe I would have built something like that. In order to get e...

Hi there- Somebody emailed me and pointed this post out to me. Those are my photos, this was my attempt at making skis some 2 or 3 years ago now. It was a good idea (I thought at the time) but I wouldn't recommend anybody use this method. You don't get even pressure, and you really don't get all tha...
