Thanks Rockakum, I guess that's what I was asking. So an extra inch, in addition to the above mentioned factors (Top and bottom mold, track, and fire hose ...) to allow removal of the ski as the hose deflates. It's great that we can all benefit from the combine experiences of the people on this foru...

Just a few press questions

We are getting down the final stages of building our press (my brother and I) and have a few questions before finishing it up. First, what dimension are most people leaving between the lower and upper molds to allow for fire hose and the ski? And… Given the chance is there any thing you would change...

The Kingswood use vertically laminated cores, however the thinnest vertically laminated blank that I can find is 3/4" thick or if my conversion is right ~19mm thick. That equals a lot of wasted material. It appears that this is not an inexpensive alternative to maple but may offer different per...

Has any one tried building a ski with a bamboo core? With the popularity of Kingswood skis, it looks like a great option. I have a call in to a few hardwood and bamboo suppliers for pricing but I was hoping there were others that could share their experiences of working with bamboo before a commitme...

Thanks everyone, it looks like I will have to start looking for demo bindings. That is not to say I have given up on the idea of the binding plates... but as usual the people on this site have provided a wealth of information and experience. THANKS!

Thanks Greg, I guess I had a misconception of Demo bindings. I was under the impression that only the heel piece moved (essentially changing the rider’s position on the ski). I guess I will have to look into this a little more as that may be the best option. How much adjustment forward and aft is al...

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of experimenting with a system that will allow quick changes to the ski set up in the parking lot. A plate mounted binding system would permit different mounting locations via inserts. Allowing the bindings to be mounted in traditional location (think factory r...

Switching bindings

My brother and I are beginning the preliminary designs of our first few skis. One question that has come up is that of the best way to mount bindings. We are looking to build alpine skis and I have concerns that the mounting of bindings (or should I say remounting bindings between skis) may be a lit...
