RA, as a matter of fact they were named after somewhere. I hope to get them out there soon! Good luck with your next set. I just got the skis back from the local shop and I am very happy with the results. There are a few high spots on the ski that will come out with one more pass on the stone but th...

Yes the sidewalls are wood (Birch to be exact). The cores were made by ripping strips of Birch and Fir. (Fir is in the center of the core. I did not use a composite sidewall as I didn’t want to worry about bonding issues with the sidewalls until I have come up with a shape and profile I like. I will...

Back Nines

This is the second set of skis my brother and I have built so far and each has been a learning experience. They are at the shop getting their first tune as I type and the storm forecast looks promising for their inaugural run. I am hoping for a big stable platform for fresh and cut up snow. The dime...

I have a quick question with regard to adjusting the temp of the heaters while pressing. Are you guys adjusting the temp of the blankets "manually" or does your controller have the capacity to program a progressive increase in temp?

I guess I am partly to blame for not reading the ulr before clicking on the “dded” link. I just did not think to look as it is skibuilders not TGR... As for the NSFW content the title of the webpage linked under the “dded” link is F*@#yoga dot com. Not exactly safe for work (at least where I work......

I have not used them but I have talked to alchemyskis about sub-laminating top sheets. Not sure what their cost would be for a larger quantity but the cost was a little more than I wanted to spend for a few personal skis. Iggyskier recently posted a very nice looking custom topsheet. He lists who he...

Wow it looks like they turned out great. What type of paint did you use for the core? Did you have any problems with bonding after painting the core?

First off burny, great looking skis. What veneer did you use for your top sheet? Are you happy with the durability of the finish? I am intrigued by you photo’s of sections through the two Volkl skis, specifically the area above the edges. The core appears to be routed significantly higher than the e...

I had the same problem and only noticed it after holding up my cut out hardboard template and thinking that doesn’t look like 191cm. I ended up using the template as a ski for my Dad. I found my problem to be when printing (I assume you saved as a PDF). It appears that Sno-Cad is plotting to the act...

I have found a hand planer like the (Stanley 6" Surform® Pocket Plane) to be a good tool for the final shaping of your wooden router templates by hand. I cut out my hard board template a few mm wider than my paper template and then shaved down to the line. It worked great. I also pre-bent my ed...

Bamboo should be treated just like any other core material. You will still need to use fiberglass to retain the skis shape (camber tip and tail ect.). I am going to use bamboo as it appears to be better option for a wooden side wall. There is a good video showing Kingswood laying up some skis with a...
