all of what you say is true. Don't you think they have been hammering these things for a year before they make these claims? If i was to lay strips of uni carbon how would I keep them all straight if I don't have them prelaid in some other material like in the vid? Yeah you can lay it pretty straig...

There is nothing special about the "carbon ollie band"

When you lay up your skis, just put down some unidirectional carbon fiber. You can get it in small widths from composite supply companies.

Looks like a very good project, I am jealous of the CNC work :(

Very interesting ski shape too, that is a LOT of sidecut!

I think it should be ok. If you are vacuum bagging then yeah, you'll be totally fine. You are putting even pressure on both sides of the aluminum (atmospheric pressure) so the aluminum won't bend at all once you put it under vacuum. The problem would be if you were doing a firehose press, since you...

So, twizzstyle, what do you think is causing the severe concavity in these skis?
I personally think it was our mold. Unfortunately we trashed it after the 2nd ski, so I have no way of knowing for sure :( Guess we'll have to see what happens with the next pair.

If the pressure is higher on the sides than it is in the middle there is the possibility of the laminate coming out concave. That's just the thing though, the pressure isn't higher on the sides, its all the same. The pressure is constant throughout the hose, and exerts a force exactly normal to the...

doughboyshredder wrote: Think it out logically. Without the cat track to disperse the pressure it is physically impossible to ensure an even pressure across the surface of the laminate.
That statement makes absolutely no sense at all. The hose guarantees an even pressure, since its just the air pressure directly.

"Simple physics" would say that the airbag alone would give you the most uniform pressure distribution, since it is a flexible skin with a uniform air pressure inside. I understand that the airbag bends around the sides so you get some side force pushing on the corners of the sidewalls. Bu...

That's right, I used the router to "plane" the base of the core, it was nearly perfectly flat. I don't see how not using a cat track would negate the channel routed for the edges. Sure, the hose pushes the sheet metal down around the sides of the ski a bit, but this shouldn't cause the sid...
