"Fairly" is a relative term, its still going to be heavy as a bitch.

It would probably work just fine, you probably just don't see it because of the complexity in the design and fabrication of it (i.e. lots of cutting, lots of welding). Its a lot quicker to just use some giant I-beams.

So no longitudinal fibers at all?? They will resist twisting like a mo-fo, but might be soft under normal flexing. And with an asymmetric layup about the core (2 layers on bottom, 1 on top) if you heat-cure the ski, you may end up with some goofy camber. If its all symmetric (1 layer top, 1 layer bo...

You are absolutely correct with the higher altitude. Vacuum bagging essentially is like using a press at atmospheric pressure (~14.7psi at sea level). The lower the barometric pressure, the less pressing force you have. Thats what autoclaves are used for. According to Googlez, Denver on average is a...

There is breather cloth specifically designed for vacuum bagging, its nice and thick, and its pretty damn cheap.

I get mine here (price is per yard)...

Your skis look great! Well done! Any idea why you have so much wrinkling in the top sheet? It doesn't look like you have any breather cloth between the top sheet and the bag material, why is that? You will get more even and complete pressure if you have a breather cloth, and it might help to distrib...

Bummer. Next season hopefully we'll get a better day when conditions are better. Today it was actually dumping at the top of alpy, with a few inches of new snow even! Wasn't the best snow ever, but it wasn't complete shit either! I only skied for a couple of hours, but it was great and the upper mou...

Me and Kevin bitched out because it looked to rainy up there :(

Then we decided it was going to be worse on Sunday so we didn't go then either.... and of course it turned out to be totally sunny that day.

We'll be up for a few runs tomorrow morning though, before it gets super crowded.

Vacuum bagging AND pressing for cap construction?

We've been getting pretty frustrated getting p-tex sidewalls to stay bonded to our top sheets. My roommate has moved on to wood sidewalls, but I don't really want to have exposed wood sidewalls, even if they're totally sealed up. So I was thinking I could bag the ski to get the top sheet around the ...

You just need a matching top mold is the problem (unless you are vacuum bagging)

I had the piggy sticks up Friday at stevens in the rain, and then again Sunday in the park at Central. They are a BLAST. I thought they were going to be stiffer than I wanted, but the tails are perfect. I think the tips could be slightly softer for powder (but I won't really know until next season, ...

Looks like a great first ski! What are you using to seal your vacuum bag? Looks like caulking or something, looks messy. You can get vacuum bagging tape pretty cheap, its a sticky rubber/clay kinda material. (I don't vacuum bag my skis, I have a firehose press, but I do a lot of vacuum bagging with ...

yeah the guy I talked to said they wouldn't start liquidating that kind of stuff for another month or two (first they have to sell the merchandise, then all the shelving, etc, then stuff like the shop stuff).

I got my name down for a look/rossi jig at the kirkland one, but they said most of the stuff will likely have dibs by local shops, but we'll see.

I'm going to stop by the Kirkland one and see if I can talk to anybody. All I want is a look binding mounting jig, I'm tired of using packing tape and trying to line it up perfectly centered.
