So firehose is fine, I think it blistered because air leaked in between the layers from the bolt holes used to close the end. This was likely aggravated by the fact the bolts were much looser than they should have been. Temperatures in the cat track leveled out at about 105F. Quite good. I pulled th...

So problems thus far: When screwing the inside of the Schroeder valve back in I overtightened it and it broke. At this point the ski is laid up in the press, and I thought I was doomed. The valve refused to tighten or loosen. Thankfully it still worked, but getting the air out of the bag is going to...

http://youtu.be/mNrfMitVArg First ski is pressing right now. We'll see. After the lapse finished I added another quilt or two. Right now, after 1 hr, it's at almost 90 in the cat track. Probably pushing 190 at the top of the box, though I haven't checked. Hopefully my firehose is made for high temps...

I haven't tried that. I would expect increased performance if I did that. Downside to that method I saw would be the space heater shutting itself off once it reaches a certain temperature. Not sure what that temperature would be since I haven't tried. Mainly didn't try because I would have needed to...

Yea, I'm pretty satisfied. My plan is to press first ski for 4-5 hrs at 80-90F, then pull it, put the next ski in, and put the completed ski on top of the press where it can post-cure at 180F while the second ski is pressing. I think I should be pretty successful. 20x better than 12hr at 60F.

Yea, that's how they're set up. They're not entirely in the box, they're in cutout and draw outside air into the box.

I've got two heaters, on opposite sides of the box. They're something like this:

Also prevents good air flow. The whole thing is far from ideal f...

Yea, I was very surprised. Just need to spread the heat around now.

Hot Box

So I'm home from college on Christmas Break. Want to make a new pair of skis. Context aside, everyone says heat is a must, and my last pair were pressed in my basement at what was probably 60-65 F with Entropy expoy. This time I want to do it one better and get some heat in there, but I have limited...

It could. A lot of things could turn out to be problems.
I epoxied the raw wood to be safe. Hasn't been an issue after 1 season.

Well. The core is exposed, but the hole I drilled only big enough for the screw to go into. So with bindings on you never see the holes.

Yea everything was M6-1.
I was great after I put in a little locktite. I think part of the problem might have been tightening them when the skis were inside and warm, then going out into the cold.

I think the topsheet I used is more like nylon/uhmw. It doesn't chip as such. It more peels up. I'm not sure that it's preferable to the chipping or not. Just different.

I see I missed a couple posts when I was answering questions. Yea my screws reached fine, though I had to get somewhat long ones. My bindings are mounted on aluminum risers. http://www.skiboardsonline.com/Merchant2/graphics/spruce/2009/spruceprosport.gif Like these. I come from skiboarding where ins...
