Falls, that's a great idea. I just used my surface planer to take off the finish, loudest noise I've ever made in the shop, and the blades dulled really quickly like everyone says. However, once the finish was off the bamboo planed amazingly well. Sir Orange, I haven't pressed a ski yet but once I d...

Neilg skis
Out of school, new town, job, $$$ (sort of), all mean new ski building tools! Even though my cloth press worked great, it was a pain to load and could only press one ski at a time. Here was my old set up: http://skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2684 So two ski press it is, Mongo/spaceframe sty...

Got to ski the eyeballs in UT a few weeks ago. Amazing place out there for sure. New pair of skis, I call them the Johnny Cash skis for obvious reasons. I tried to take a few more pictures of my build process, pretty primitive compared to what a lot of folks are doing, but it works more or less. Som...

So, the eyeball skis work, *sigh of relief* The reverse sidecut (about 1-1.5 ft of length at the tip and about 1 ft at the tail) works great. Skis pivot and shed speed easily while the bit of regular sidecut in the middle makes them carve pretty well (not too surprising considering the effective edg...

-gscherer and falls, thanks! -Dr. Delam: This is going to sound ridiculous, but I typed in eye or eyeball or something in google images and found the largest picture I could of an eye. I copied into GIMP (a free image editing program) and made it really really big, trying to preserve the 300 dpi tha...

Just finished a new pair today! They're at the shop getting ground and bindings (some Barons) put on. I decided to try and make a ski like I'd find at the shop, graphic, sidewalls, etc. We'll see how it works... They're about 190cm, 138-123-128(ish), but the widest points are moved in (kind of like ...

They need to be around 188 cm long. I noticed the snowboard materials edges the other day. Do you have any experience with them, and if they'll fit with the base material (1.3mm thick) offered by the skibuilders store? I guess what I'm getting at is, does a difference in step size between an edge an...

Looking for edges
Due to the ski builders store being currently out of edges (I emailed the store support and Kelvin replied they should be back in stock in 2 or 3 weeks, edges are shipping from Austria...) I'm wondering if anybody has four edges they would be willing to sell so that I can build a pair of skis (don't...
