Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log
So the next pair of skis ended up coming first after all! my friend decided to go with a cherry veneer, red base, and full tip wrapped edges! The skis are all mountain style 160 cm with a rocker camber rocker profile. the edges were a huge pain in the butt! after doing these with a pair of pliers, l...

Re: Carbon Fiber Stringers - Never Summer Factory Video
Nice links sammer thanks!
I'll probably be ordering couple meter lengths of various types of material until I have a good idea of what I like most before going for a large volume order.

Carbon Fiber Stringers - Never Summer Factory Video
Hey Guys! I'm wondering - after searching unsuccessfully for a long time, does anyone know what the carbon fiber "stringer sheets" they use in the never summer factory tour video are called or where to get them? They have these perfectly spaced, narrow, carbon fiber stringers that appear t...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log
Thanks! Do you use a router with a beveling bit? the thought of messing up and gouging them will give me nightmares. I've seen some pretty tragic photos of damage caused by people using a router to bevel their sidewall and slipping. I feel like sanding would be a much more slow and controlled proces...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log
Cleaned them up on a spindle sander! I think I'm just gonna use the spindle sander to bevel the edges too, you can adjust the surface angle from flat to like 45 degrees, its this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-Oscillating-Edge-Belt-Spindle-Sander-EB4424/202459151 anyway, here's some pics! https...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log
So I was at it again this weekend! pressed my first actual pair to bring to the mountain! The skis are 165cm with a slalom shape. The composition was base, veil, uniaxial carbon fiber stringer between the edge tangs, full triax fiberglass layer, maple/poplar core, triax fiber binding mount pad, full...

Re: Core splitting
I'd glue it up and proceed carefully as to not propagate the crack or cause more. once the fiberglass layers are sandwiching the core, and the core's absorbed some epoxy it'll be strong and you'll be good to go.

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log
Thanks! Yeah I am going to try that this time, attach the base to a piece of wood a bit narrower than the ski and not unclamp it before both edges are on. My buddy suggested attaching the bases right to the aluminum cassette and cnc the shape/ do the edges / lay it up without ever removing the bases...

To give you an idea of how would look if you did go with fiberglass and clear top sheet here’s a pic:

Re: what cad program is best for ski design
I use a couple programs to get my shapes drafted - I start in snocad and export to dxf. at first I thought great, just import the dxf into fusion and we're off to the races! but.. the dxf that snocad exports is a polyline with thousands and thousands of vertices and when I try to import into fusion ...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log
Thanks! Yeah, I'm probably playing with fire there. especially with my silpoxy patch near the tip block lol the other thing is I want to close the gaps between the tip and tail pieces to avoid another scenario like my test run where epoxy pooled in there and burnt the membrane. I'm thinking maybe a ...
