Why not use snowshoes? Forgive me, I'm not a mountaineer, but 110cm long and 65mm wide seems really small for skinning, and if they won't ever be used downhill why do they need edges? Snowshoes are less efficient and allow you to sink more in the snow. Granted I'm making this comparison to full len...

Well, I'm a believer. The router table worked awesome. So much quicker and no hockey pads were necessary. Only the narrow ends were a bit sketchy so I'll run the mold through the table saw as Sammer suggested to clean those up after glueing. Tail mold is just about done.

Thanks everyone.

The template was by far the easy part. Print to 1 to 1 scale → attach to MDF with spray on adhesive → rough out with jigsaw → sand to perfection. That part only took about a half an hour. I'll give the method you guys are using a shot on my tail molds this week. Hopeful...

Techniques for Routing Tip & Tail Molds

I'm curious to find out how you all are routing your tip and tail molds. I searched the forum a bit and mostly what I found was hidden in journals. For those of you who don't CNC your molds, what have you found to be the best way to do it? I started out using the router table but it was problematic ...

I've been using SolidWorks but it can be maddening when dealing with splines so its great to see a new program dedicated to this sort of thing in the works. It would be nice if a rocker profile option would be added. Awesome that your putting so much effort in the program! Also, an option for multip...

I guess the main drawback would be that you don't have as much control over your design. For example, you can't opt to put less carbon in it. However, It probably makes it a little neater and easier for layup if your design is already optimized.

Triaxial Carbon Fiberglass?

So I was perusing Voile-USA's website today and I clicked on the Board Tech section for the V-tail splitboard. They are saying they are using triaxial carbon fiberglass. From the picture it looks like the carbon is weaved into the fiberglass. Anybody here ever used the stuff? http://www.voile-usa.co...

It looks like Voile-USA is doing this on their skis now too. At least this model which has a waxless base.

I build alpine touring skis. The base is milled with a router jig after pressing and grinding. They work real well on low to moderate slopes but I still need to use skins on steeper terrain. You can click on my web page below to see them. Cool Karmav. My friend was asking me the other day if this c...

That is so cool you are making your own hardware. Aluminum? Now I wanna see homemade skins made from your own yak.

I don't see any inserts. Have they just not been drilled yet?
