Press Construction Order

I searched around and couldn't find anything related so I'll ask. What is the proper order of press building? I don't have any materials yet but will acquire them piece by piece as funds come in. Would I be out of line to build my press in this order? 1. Frame 2. Cat track 3. Pressurization Bladder ...

I'm still planning out my workshop and press. I think I'm going to start without any heat blankets initially and I'm wondering if heating the room with space heaters to at least 70°F will be enough to get a decent epoxy bond. What do you think? Otherwise I'll probably have to wait till spring to sta...

I love this post. The idea that basically any wood can be used is great!

I'm curious about your delamination issues BigKam. Do you know what was the root cause? Or how to keep delaminations from occuring? Was it poor quality epoxy? Poor adhesion to the wood pallet core?

Re: Make ur own cores!

Personally I think making your own cores is the way to go. It isnt as complicated as you guys are making it sound. Keep it simple and do a good job during set up and you will get a great core everytime. I've made a few birch and poplar cores for $15 or so and they only take 45 mins to press. The ha...

Now assume we have the hose w/ 40psi in a press with a cat track measuring 72in x 12in. The cat track will have 34,560 lbs of force exerted on to it ( 72*12*40=34560) which will be directed to the ski. I agree except for one detail that I think needs clarification. In your example the hose with 40p...

Do you use the wood veneer as the top sheet or do you cover it with another layer?

If you use it as the top sheet, does it need to be treated or coated to protect against Image and old man winter?

Wow that's a bold move. Especially when MM had no malicious intent.

What's your problem?

Wow that is a lot of routers G-man. Are you making skis professionally?

So you are saying that you need a plunge router to use guide bushings? I was under the impression you could use a fixed base router since it has microfine depth adjustment.

So a plunge router is for making signs? Is there nothing about making skis or snowboards that I would need one for? If that's the case a standalone fixed router would be cheaper. Any suggestions for router models? I heard Bosch is solid. I think thefreshpimp was making a joke about the plunge route...

Press/Mold Rib Width?

I'm designing a fabric press to be used to make both skis and snowboards. Any tips on how wide the press/mold ribs should be? Is a few centimeters wider than the widest pair of skis/board I make enough? Or should I go wider? Also, how far apart should the skis be when pressing both skis at once? Plu...
